Buy a digital camera without digital zoom
Camera advertisements can be very misleading. One of the things to look out for is "digital zoom" AKA no zoom. What "digital zoom" really does is crop and enlarging the image digitally with irreversibly quality loss. If you want to have real zoom funcinality buy a camera with optical zoom.
