Giving a negative employee reference
It is much more challenging to give a negative reference for your ex-employee. First you should choose to give no or little information. Writing derogatory remarks is a simple recipe to end up in a lawsuit. Not offering any information about the performance is also as good as giving a negative reference. You can also choose to comment on other things than performance. If you know the other employer, you can casually give your exact opinion.
