Use string cheese to enhance meat loaf flavor
Divide your favorite meat loaf mixture in two. Pat half into the baking pan, and top it with sticks of string cheese. The number of sticks needed depends on the size of your recipe. My bread-loaf pan of meat loaf takes six sticks of cheese. Leave some space between the sticks, making sure that no cheese touches the pan. Layer the remaining half of the meat and bake according to your recipe. Your slices of finished meat loaf will have polka-dots of cheese.

Punch hole in canned vegetables to drain liquid
Instead of dirtying a strainer when draining the liquid from canned vegetables, use a church-key can opener to punch a triangular hole in the top of the can. The liquid pours out easily and it's easy to pour it in a container if you want to keep it...such as the juice from canned tomatoes or fruit.

Use large aluminum pans as litter box for cat
Plastic litter pans for cats are expensive and absorb waste odors. Use large-size aluminum roasting pans (used for making lasagna) instead. I find them for a dollar each at discount and dollar stores. The cats don't seem to mind the texture of the aluminum, and it doesn't absorb the odors. If they do get soiled, it's no problem to toss it out and put down a fresh one price, since they are so inexpensive.

iPod can store and display text files
Few people are aware of the many features of the standard iPod. It can be used as a USB storage device. You can read text on any iPod by saving your text as a .txt file. Use Notepad to create a .txt file. Create a new playlist called “Notes” and drag your stored .txt files into "Notes" playlist.

Use receiving blankets to create no-sew valance
What to do with all those extra receiving blankets? Choose two of the same color or coordinating colors. Make a cute, no-sew window valance for baby's room by folding each in half with opposite corners together forming a triangle shape. Hang one folded blanket over the left side of a curtain rod allowing half to hang in front and half in back of the rod in a V shape. Hang the other blanket similarly over the right side slightly overlapping the first blanket. Easy to take down and wash.

Pursue alternative teacher conferences
There are more and more things to accomplish in a day. It is hard to do all of those things and stay informed with your child's school. Communicate this with your child's teacher. Schedule phone conferences and use email communication to stay informed.

What to do when you can't sleep
First, write down all the things that you're remembering for tomorrow. Once they're on paper, you can forget about them for tonight. Next, find a comfortable position. If you're holding yourself in position, adjust until it takes no effort to lay there. Now, relax your eyes. Finally, use hypnotic phrases--"You're getting very sleepy, your eyes are getting very heavy" etc.

Salt freshens laundry and prevents sticking iron
You'll be surprised by the improvements in ironing that a little bit of salt will make. A dash of salt in the laundry starch keeps the iron from sticking and gives linens and fine cottons a glossy, brand-new finish.

Dedicate time for homework catch up
We all know it's important to do homework, but quite often there are pieces that we just don't find the time to do. Set aside a few hours one day each week (say a Sunday afternoon), where you don't plan to do anything else, but instead just catch up with outstanding homework. If you don't have any to do, then you've got yourself some spare time!
